My name is
Benjamin Ferreira.
I’m a Senior Interactive User Experience Designer and Developer at GE Aerospace.
Currently building the future of 3D Printing Software and 3D metal Printers. I work with a smart team of engineers, technologist, and CAD industry veterans. Helping aerospace, healthcare, and auto industry customers print their parts faster.
I am an UX Designer— who learned to code.
I build front-end UI and I’ve been doing so for 10+ years.
I’m a designer with strong interactive design skills and a strong research skill-set.
What does that mean?
It means I can back up what I design.
It means I’m a designer with the chops to bring any idea to life. Designing real solutions, to real problems. Designing systems and visual interfaces that are delightful to use and live with.
It means I can build products. Your products. I am a UI designer and web developer. Building and maintaining clean, modern front-end development projects. Always hungry to learn more, and always crafting the best possible experience I can.
My work is Evidence Based. I’m well-practiced in uncovering the motivations and reasons why users choose to use or not use a product. Why products succeed or fail. I can communicate what I find during research, to both developers and stakeholders. All to help drive better outcomes for your products or your company.
I focus on Design and use many tools to get the job done. I always try to approach with the right tool for the job.
When I’m building interfaces, I design in the browser.
That means I understand:
How to work with, and write modern
HTML
CSS
/Sass
/Less
/ CSS Frameworks like Tailwindcss to style the web.Javascript
and modern ES6+ best practices.Vue
/React
/Node.js
patterns to add as much interactivity and functionality as a designer should in an interface.Gulp
/Webpack
/NPM
and other package managers as to not get bogged down with the tooling of modern web projects.Working with modern Content Management Systems by creating templates, components, and partials.
Working with Git version control, Build Pipelines, and Web Deployments.
Email HTML Development, especially that old school table stuff.
Building JAM Stack Sites, prototypes, and simple apps.
When I’m on a longer term project, I’m asked to lead helpful design initiatives.
That means I can organize and run:
Developing a Product Strategy from a blank slate or helping shape an existing one.
Brainstorming, ideation, and concept creation, in away that structures ideas.
Wireframing / Prototyping / Piloting experiences with testing in mind.
Running Usability Testing, properly planned, outlined, and reproducible.
Creating User Task Flows that help communicate what users should do, and User Research Diagrams that show what they do today.
Running User Research initiatives like Contextual Inquiry, user interviews, and other observational studies.
Pouring over User Analytics and other data, to derive insights from patterns in the data and compare with real world observation.
Crafting proposals for Ethnographic Research, including schedules of interviews, desired sample size, recruiting users to talk to, and coordinating the gathering of research insights.
Running Content Mapping exercises with product teams and users, and organizing data into functional System Object Data Maps (OOUX) that are transformed into real world web app components.
Trained in the art of taxonomy and classifying Information. Building better products thru structure and information architecture.
And if you never heard of those things, don’t worry—perhaps you’ve heard of these things I’ve been called:
I have been called an Interaction Designer,
a User Interface Designer,
a designer with iOS, Windows, Android, and Web User Interface experience,
a Web Designer,
a Product Designer,
And most recently a Service Designer.
